Importing a CSV file into a datapool

If you need to create a new datapool with a large number of records, you can initialize the datapool quickly by importing data from a comma-separated-value (CSV) file.

Procedure

  1. Using a spreadsheet or a simple text editor, create a CSV file that contains the data to be included in the datapool. The first line of the file can contain the descriptive names of the variables (columns). For example you might include these column titles: Inventory or Description. Here is an example of a spreadsheet file:

  2. Click File > Import, and expand Test.
  3. In Test, select CSV File as Datapool, and then click Next.
  4. In the Import CSV File as Datapool window, complete these steps:
    1. Click Browse to navigate to the CSV file.
    2. If the data in the CSV file is encoded differently from what the local computer expects, select the encoding from the Encoding list.
    3. The first row of the CSV file can contain column names. If it does, select the First row of the CSV file contains the variable names and optional suggested types check box. If this check box is not selected, columns are named Variable1, Variable2 and so on. You can change the names when you edit the datapool.
    4. The first column of the CSV file can contain equivalence class names. Typically, leave the First column of the CSV file contains the equivalence class names and optional record numbers check box cleared. Equivalence classes are used in functional, rather than performance, testing. Select this check box if the CSV file contains equivalence classes. If this check box is not selected, the data from the CSV file will be imported into one equivalence class.
  5. Click Next.
  6. To import into an existing datapool, select Import into an existing datapool, and then select the datapool.
    1. Select Append to existing records to add rows to the datapool. Select Replace existing records to replace rows in the datapool.
  7. To create a datapool, click Next, select a folder, and type the name of the new datapool.
  8. Click Finish. The data from the CSV file is imported into the datapool.
